About The Lil' A Team
The Lil’ A Team began in August 2005 when our son Anthony “Lil’ A” Gomez came home from the hospital after enduring his second open heart surgery in his then 11 month old life.
Anthony’s Aunt, Julie Gomez, offered to captain a team in Anthony’s honor for Briggs & Al’s Run and Walk for Children’s Hospital to celebrate the success of Anthony’s surgery, the new lease on life it gave to him and also Lil’ A’s upcoming first birthday.
Little did we know then the outpouring of love and support that would come our way as a result of the formation of the Lil’ A Team or the amazing impact we have been able to make as a result of our fundraising efforts. We definitely would never have been able to predict the way the Lil’ A Team has touched Anthony’s life, the joy and confidence it has given him to know that he has a whole team of people joined together to love and support and fight for him. The Lil’ A Team has taught Anthony to believe in himself and to never EVER give up. By being a part of the Lil’ A Team Anthony has learned, and we have learned along with him, that although he has heart defects, heart defects will NEVER have him! He has learned that not only is he never alone in his fight with heart defects but a whole team of people is ready and willing to approach this cause in the same way that Anthony himself lives his life – to give it everything they have and then a whole lot more!
That first walk in 2005, the Lil’ A Team raised $2,500 in Anthony’s name, all of which went directly to the Herma Heart Center at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to help assure that Anthony and children like him are given the chance they deserve, the chance at a long and healthy life. In 2006, The Lil’ A Team raised an amazing $10,500!!!!!!!! In 2007 the sky is the limit! We believe that together, we can make the world a brighter place for our own Lil’ A and countless other children just as amazing as he is. We hope you will join us in our fight!
