Update on Anthony from David & Sarah Gomez

Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you already know, on July 24th Anthony had his 3rd open heart surgery, the Fontan pathway. The surgery was a huge success and Anthony's recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. We were home four days post-surgery! At home, Anthony has continue to rest, recover and amaze. His oxygen saturations, post-Fontan, are in the 90's! Prior to the Fontan, his saturations were in the 70's to 80's, quickly dropping into the 60's with activity. This boost in oxygen has already made a huge difference in Anthony's life. His lips and nail beds are a lovely shade of pink, instead of blue. He is breathing so much easier and is able to climb a flight of stairs without getting winded. Currently, Anthony's activity level is restricted, but it is already clear that in the coming months there will be no stopping our Lil'A!

Right now we are adjusting to life post-Fontan - getting used to new medications, frequent blood draws and chest x-rays, activity restrictions and a fat-restricted diet- but we feel as though a major hurdle is now behind us and a new life has begun for our family - a life filled with hope for the future of our son. To say that we feel extremely blessed is an understatement. We feel as though our hearts might explode with gratitude for what we've been given.

From the very bottom of our hearts, thank you for your thoughts and prayers for our family. At our darkest and most scary moments, we could feel the love and prayers surrounding us and that literally carried us through. We are at a loss to tell you the impact your love and support had and continues to have upon our family. Words fail to express how directly your thoughts and prayers affected Anthony's recovery and our own ability to cope. Thank you will never be enough. Please know that we thank God for each and every one of you and keep you each in our own thoughts and prayers always.
